Turning Vintage and Second Hand Sweaters into Works of Art for Dogs
I had a hard time finding dog coats and sweaters that fit my little long-backed, deep chested miniature Dachshunds.I began experimenting with second hand sweaters as my raw materials for dog coats that fit. I now make all kinds of dog sweaters and coats from vintage and second hand “people” sweaters. I source these sweaters from estate sales, yard sales, thrift and boutique shops. I take the unique features of each sweater into account as I re-purpose and up-cycle them into well fitting dog coats!
Once I find sweaters to use, I bring them home, wash and dry on hot and the ones that survive that make the cut to become a dog coat. I also use most of the scrap in creating patchwork coats and sweaters so very little goes to waste and ends up in the landfill. I do all the creating, cutting and sewing in my lovely workroom in my home.
